The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”) is a government agency that enforces employment discrimination laws. Religious discrimination is one type of employment discrimination. Although Leeds, Morelli & Brown has been successfully handling many religious discrimination cases for some time, the law has been somewhat unclear. In the last decade, the number of religious discrimination cases filed with the EEOC has substantially grown. (http://eeoc.gov/stats/religion.html).
On July 22, 2008, the EEOC revised its Compliance Manual on religious discrimination in order to provide clarification, especially with regard to an employer’s duty to accommodate an employee’s religious beliefs and practices. Read the rest of this entry »

Hubby Sued for Giving Wife STD: Grounds for Divorce, Adultery
On Thursday August 14, 2008 CNN reported that a woman was suing her husband for $25 million dollars. The husband admits to being involved with other women during business trips, and to having a mistress in New York. He also admits to twice infecting his wife with sexually transmitted diseases, most recently HPV. The story is shocking and upsetting, and an example of how adultery can have a physical and emotional toll on a spouse. Read the rest of this entry »

The effects Divorce has on our Children’s Education
Bill and Melinda Gates were special guests on an episode of the Oprah Winfrey show last week discussing problems in the American education system. The show points out that even though America is the richest nation on Earth its students are not meeting the standards of students in other countries. The law firm of Leeds Morelli & Brown P.C. shares in the belief that education is fundamental to the continued success of America, and has itself donated to worthy educational institutions, including Hofstra University School of Law.

Prenuptial Agreements and Hope
On July 28, 2008 the New York Law Journal published a fascinating article by Susan M. Moss, Daniel Z. Rivlin and Vanessa L. Keegan-Natola called “YouTube Aside, The Law On Prenups”. The article covered a great deal of topics relating to prenuptial agreements, but one specifically caught our eye here at Leeds Morelli & Brown P.C. As part of Leeds Morelli and Brown P.C.’s continuing commitment to the law, we wanted to share this information with our friends and neighbors in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Prenuptial agreements are contracts that spouses sign before they get married. The agreement governs the division of assets in the event of a divorce. Like any contract there is a limited window where the agreement can be challenged because it is unfair. Read the rest of this entry »
